The social media platform X has announced plans to add a feature called Smart Cashtags, set to arrive in February.
The update lets posts include specific asset or smart contract identifiers instead of broad tickers.
Users will tap a cashtag to see the real-time price and recent mentions of that item directly from their feed. X aims to gather input before the public release.

Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, shared in a post on X on January 11 that “hundreds of billions of dollars are deployed based on things people read here”.
Previous versions of cashtags displayed basic price charts for digital assets such as Bitcoin
That feature was removed, but Smart Cashtags built on it with new tools, including optional “Buy” and “Sell” buttons in the concept images. The timeline view will display contract details and links to recent discussions for each asset.
Launching Smart Cashtags furthers a vision of integrating finance into the platform. X has secured money transmitter licenses in at least 25 US states, which lays the groundwork for payments.
This plan follows recent complaints from parts of the crypto community, who claimed that the platform was limiting visibility of genuine crypto content in favor of spam.
