Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, is starting a new company focused on artificial intelligence (AI), according to The New York Times.
The project, called Project Prometheus, will be co-led by Bezos, his first hands-on management role since leaving Amazon in 2021.
The new venture has already raised about $6.2 billion, according to three people familiar with its plans. A large part of that funding comes from Bezos himself, which puts Project Prometheus among the best-financed new tech companies.

Although Bezos has remained active through his space company, Blue Origin, he has not had an official executive title there. His new role at Project Prometheus shows a return to day-to-day leadership.
Since leaving Amazon, Bezos’s personal life has often made headlines, from his high-profile wedding in Venice to his growing involvement in space travel. At the same time, he has become interested in AI.
Project Prometheus fits within that vision. The company is said to be developing AI tools to support engineering and manufacturing across several areas, including aerospace, computers, and cars. These efforts also connect with Bezos’s long-term goal of expanding human activity into space.
The company has kept most details private. It is unclear when it was founded or where it will be based.
