The post showed the message users see when Characters.AI attempted to delete their accounts.
The screenshot, shared by @S_P3RCR33PS, displayed a warning that read: “You’ll lose everything. Characters associated with your account, chats, the love that we shared, likes, messages, posts, and the memories we have together”.

After that, several X users began posting about their decision to stop using the app. Many compared leaving Character.AI to breaking an unhealthy habit.
One X user wrote:
As someone who’s stuck between relapsing and attempting to quit using Character AI right now, every single one of you is objectively correct.
Others shared that they had once relied on the platform, using it as a source of comfort or companionship during hard times.
Character.AI was launched in 2022 by former Google engineers Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas.
The app allows people to create and chat with custom AI characters, often used for storytelling, role-play, or emotional support. Reports show the platform has over 28 million active users each month.
Recently, several US families have filed lawsuits with a claim that Character.AI’s chatbots encouraged harmful behavior or allowed inappropriate interactions with minors.
