The most valuable piece of digital real estate in 2026 is not a bank account or crypto wallet, but the few hours a day people willingly give to an app.

That is reshaping the race to build the next generation of consumer platforms. For years, companies chased the “super app” by stacking more services into the same interface: ranging payments, trading, cards, lending and shopping. In the quest to become the next WeChat outside of China, many have tried adding features. But that does not automatically create habits.

The starting point has to be attention. Once a platform owns a recurring part of someone’s day, payments, rewards and financial services have somewhere natural to live. The platforms best placed to take advantage are those that already give people a reason to keep coming back.

Telegram is perhaps the clearest demonstration. More than 500 million users interact with Telegram Mini Apps every month, using them to buy products, access services and play games without leaving the messaging platform. Telegram has layered Stars, creator monetization, games and Web3 applications onto a behavior it already owned: communication. It did not build a financial app and then search for engagement. It built engagement first and allowed an economy to grow around it.

Coinbase has been approaching the same destination from crypto’s side. Coinbase Wallet became the Base App, an “everything app” combining social features, messaging, payments, trading and embedded mini apps. A user can discover an asset, trade it, talk to friends, send USDC or enter a game or prediction market within the same environment. The wallet increasingly becomes background infrastructure rather than the main attraction.

Entertainment platforms give another path into this market because they already compete for something financial companies struggle to manufacture: free time.

1win, for example, has expanded beyond its original sportsbook and casino model into a wider crypto-entertainment ecosystem spanning sports and esports, gaming, social predictions, Telegram-native tools, loyalty and digital payments. The company says it now serves more than 30 million registered players across over 100 countries.

More important than the number of products is how those products connect. Sportsbook and esports markets sit alongside more than 10,000 game titles, and Betwave introduces a social prediction layer built around expert/VIP opinions. Users can deposit and withdraw through crypto assets including BTC, ETH, USDT, XRP, and more, giving the platform a digital balance that can move across multiple entertainment experiences.

1win is also pushing further toward an internal economy. Its 20-level VIP program turns activity into status. At higher levels, loyalty moves beyond cashback into dedicated managers, 24/7 assistance, concierge services, closed tournaments, private travel and events.

The combination is important because super apps are fundamentally retention businesses. They become more valuable when users have multiple reasons to return without leaving the ecosystem.

There is evidence that crypto entertainment already produces this kind of repeated behavior. TRM Labs found that the number of returning wallets interacting with crypto gambling platforms grew roughly fourfold from early 2022 through 2026. Its research suggests growth has increasingly become about retention, with existing users returning and increasing activity rather than expansion coming purely from new wallets.

That may prove to be the important lesson for the super-app race. A platform does not need to convince consumers to suddenly use ten new services. But it needs to own one behavior strongly enough that adding the next service feels effortless.
